Examples of
measures in our production process

We would like to take you on a tour of ‘Das Teppichwerk – Weg’ and are delighted to give you a glimpse into the heart of our company – our production facilities.

The ‘end-of-pipe’ approach has long since been abandoned in favour of measures implemented directly within the production process. Rather than removing production residues from the environment – specifically the air and water – and subsequently disposing of them, these residues are prevented from arising in the first place through process changes. The measures described below have reduced selected material residues and emissions. Reference periods and quantities are specified for each measure, where available.

Automatic paint dosing
and mixing station (FDA)

This involves the operation of an automatic paint dosing and mixing station (FDA), which, in conjunction with the process changeover, prevents the generation of waste materials that previously had to be disposed of.

Non-use of bitumen and PVC

The SL Sonic backing is manufactured without bitumen or PVC. Details of the tested VOC emissions for the respective products can be found in the relevant certificates. Tiles with SL Sonic backing are Made in Germany.

In-house recycling facility

DAS TEPPICHWERK has been operating its own recycling plant since the early 1990s. In 2025, 75 tonnes of production offcuts were processed in-house and incorporated into the adhesive layer as described. To achieve this, carpet offcuts from production and PE pellets are mixed in a ratio of 30:70 and ground; the resulting fine grain mixture, approximately 300 µm in size, is then scattered between the backing fabric and the pile and serves as an adhesive layer for the pile. The use of the company’s own recycled material is a valuable contribution to sustainability.

Dust filter systems

We operate dust filtration systems that filter approximately 15 tonnes per annum of fibre dust and yarn fibres from the air and feed them into an external recycling process. Here, the fibres are used as a filler in new plastic products.

Solar power system

We operate a photovoltaic system with an installed capacity of 499 kWp on a 3,500 m² warehouse roof.

In 2025, the photovoltaic system generated a total of 470,000 kWh of electricity.
